In 2009, WWF’s first Palm Oil Buyers’ Scorecard revealed that a small group of forward-thinking companies had made commitments to use only sustainable palm oil and that some of these had been followed up with tangible action. Two years later, WWF has assessed again the palm oil buying practices of major companies in Europe, this time expanding the scope of the Scorecard to include companies from Australia and Japan. As in 2009, we have looked at these companies’ commitment to, and use of, palm oil certified to the internationally recognized standards of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO). 

Palmöl ist ein vielseitig einsetzbares pflanzliches Öl, das aus tropischen Ölpalmen gewonnen wird und zu den weltweit wichtigsten Agrarrohstoffen gehört. In 50 % aller Lebensmittel befindet sich heutzutage Palmöl. Erstmals hat der WWF Deutschland – parallel zu der internationalen Bewertung – eine Bewertung der Einkaufspolitik von deutschen Käufern und Verarbeitern von Palmöl erstellt. 64 Unternehmen wurden befragt und bewertet.

The World Wide Fund For Nature (WWF) is developing and using such methods to identify priority areas for freshwater conservation and to contribute in guiding sustainable development and human use in river basins, while also protecting important natural assets

Zum sechsten Mal seit 2006 waren in diesem Jahr die größten deutschen Unternehmen und erstmals auch die größten österreichischen Unternehmen aufgefordert, an der Umfrage des CDP teilzunehmen. Von den insgesamt eingeladenen 250 Unternehmen, nahmen 128 Unternehmen (51%) an der Befragung teil.

International shipping is a major – and rapidly growing – source of greenhouse gas emissions. Agreement to apply a carbon price to shipping can both reduce emissions and raise funds for climate change adaptation and mitigation in developing countries. This paper shows that doing so is possible while ensuring developing countries face no net costs. COP17 in Durban, South Africa at the end of 2011 provides an opportunity to agree the key principles of such a deal.
