Decarbonising our economies quickly enough to limit climatic disruptions to acceptable levels, and adapting to the unavoidable impacts, continues to be among the most complex and difficult challenges humanity has ever faced. The science is clear - failure to hold global temperature increase to no more than 1.5°C and to adapt to the changing climate will put all of WWF's conservation objectives, and the well-being and survival of many species, including humans, in danger.

The global “Climate and Energy Practice” - one of WWF’s 6 thematic strategic focus areas – is working on 5 different “Areas of Collective Action & Innovation” (ACAI). One of them is the “Business Climate Hub”. The goal of this ACAI is to leverage and better coordinate existing WWF private sector initiatives to drive energy and climate action at local to global scales.


The “Climate and Energy Practice” is hosted by WWF Deutschland, Germany’s independent section of the global network. Our Conservation Department / Ecological footprint in Berlin is looking - from 1st January 2018 and in full-time employment with an limited contract (three years) – for an

Head of Business Climate Hub (m/f)

What you will be doing:

  • Improve, develop and execute a global WWF Climate and Business strategy to support the achievement of the Climate and Energy Practice goals
  • Management of expert teams working on WWF‘s Climate Business Hub activities (e.g. existing activities like Science Based Targets and Climate Savers as well was new opportunities)
  • Represent WWF in the Science Based Target Initiative as one of the strategic Climate and Business activities of WWF (steering committee level)
  • Work with the WWF Practice Leader Climate and Energy and across WWF National offices to identify opportunities to achieve the practice’s goals
  • Align the Climate and Energy Practice work with the overall WWF’s activities and of other WWF practices
  • Build and maintain successful external partnerships and relationships with partners
  • Engage externally and internally in communicating WWF and partners Climate and Business work
  • Identifying commercial opportunities and securing funding opportunities and income generation for supporting the work on creation, maintenance and evolution of SBT and other initiatives
  • Work with the Practice Leader and the Senior Management to carrying out risk assessments related to the projects and to establish budgets, monitor and report on them
  • Work together with the Practice Lead Scientist to ensure that scientific requirements and quality standards are met on all projects

Your Profile:

  • Minimum MSc degree that supports the SBT and Climate and Business Engagement Work
  • Minimum of 5 years experience working with the private sector on environmental and sustainability issues in the climate field; ideally a mix of corporate and NGO experience
  • Understanding of science-based  targets, climate and business engagement, climate change, corporate reporting
  • Strategic mindset and ability to build strategic and project plans
  • Extensive experience of developing work streams
  • Hands on mentality – get things done attitude
  • Capacity to organize and coordinate multiple work-streams and teams to deliver on organizational objectives
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and ability to develop strong working relationship and strategic partnerships;
  • Diplomacy and advocacy skills;
  • Team management (ideally global teams) and leadership skills;
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to interact convincingly with people at various levels of seniority and diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Fluent English
